2020 EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS.
The Dick Wedlock Race is a firm fixture on Glasgow’s running calendar, and traditionally hosted by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Athletics Club. The RUN Bible are delighted to add this long standing event to their stable.
Dick Wedlock was an outstanding Scottish runner and firefighter, when both careers were tragically cut short. A road side accident in 1974 left Wedlock paralysed from the neck down. An extensive review of his amazing running career care be found here
The event has moved around Glasgow over it’s history, initially beginning on The Green. The race started life as 5.25 miles when run in Glasgow Green, before becoming a 10k event when it was moved to Pollok Park. It was formerly part of the very sucessful UK Fire Service Championship, which consisted of, at one time, 10 races. Sadly most of these events have now disappeared
This year’s event will take place in Queen’s Park. It will offer the once classic race distance of 5-miles. Very few races of this distance remain in the local running calendar.
Following the race, participants will be invited to attend a barbeque hosted at Queens Park Bowling and Tennis Club
The RUN Bible are also pleased to bring back the ceilidh – a favourite of both the local runners, and the reguarly visiting tourists from the German fire service.
Both the barbeque and the ceilidh will be available to participants for an additional fee.
The Dick Wedlock “Fire Five” Race will also be offering TRB’s new Tee or Tree option. Opt for a race branded tech tshirt or plant a tree in TRB’s ever expanding grove with Trees For LIfe – helping to re-wild the Scottish Highlands with natural species.
£1 from each entry will be donated to the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service Family Support Trust
